Men's Sunday Trophy Final - Match Preview

Looking ahead to this season's Men's Sunday Trophy Final

There will be a new name on the trophy for the BBFA Sunday Trophy as AFC Winkfield & St John’s Sports look to win the competition for the first time in their history at Marlow FC’s Alfred Davis Memorial Ground on Tuesday 16th April (Kick Off 7:45pm).

AFC Winkfield of the Bracknell Sunday League Division 1 meet Milton Keynes Sunday League Division 2 side St John’s Sports in what should be a hotly contested Final as both look to create history.

Here is your guide to the two teams involved...

AFC Winkfield

With games in hand on the teams above them, and just 4 points from top spot, AFC Winkfield will be looking to add promotion to their CV for this season. AFC Winkfield will be looking to add goals to their games in the remainder of the matches to keep their noses in front of Bracknell Cavaliers as the Bracknell Sunday League Division 1 title race hots up.

Three wins out of three in March has seen them hit good form as the final approaches.

Route to the Final

1st Round v Bye

2nd Round v Southbank W 5-1
Goals from Fuller, Goddard (2), Wentworth and Brown see AFC through to the 3rd round of the competition.

3rd Round v Reading United W 3-2
A narrow win over RDSL opponents sees AFC head for round 4.

4th Round v Caversham United W 2-0
A more routine victory over another RDSL side has AFC dreaming of the final in April.

Quarter Final v Southcote W 2-1
Another narrow win, played on a neutral ground after multiple postponements, sees a semi final place secured.

Semi Final v MK United W 1-0
As with nearly all of the cup matches this season, just a one goal difference sees AFC Winkfield book their place in the final at Marlow FC.

St John’s Sports

Newcomers to the MK Sunday League, having moved across from the High Wycombe Sunday Combination, St Johns Sports find themselves in a promotion race from Division 2. With games in hand on their opponents, St John’s will be hoping to make progress to Division 1 for next season.

Nine points separates St Johns from second place with eight games and that may well be the target unless results go their way and Southcott Village suddenly lose form. Goals have been flying in this season with 17 goal top scorer Cameron Roll leading the way, one ahead of strike partner Jack Maddran.

The Social Club Ground has seen St John’s created a fortress with six home wins from six, and with seven consecutive wins in all competitions, St Johns are in good form as their date with AFC Winkfield approaches.

Route to the Final

1st Round v Wycombe Sports W 4-2
Greco and Roll both at the double as the battle of the Sports sees St Johns progress.

2nd Round v Newport Pagnell Town W 3-1
A cup giant killing as MK Division 1 side Newport Pagnell are beaten at home.

3rd Round v FC Union D 3-3 (W 3-1 on pens)
Ashley, C Green and Maddran score in 90 minutes to take the game to pens. St Johns hold their nerve to win.

4th Round v FC Lions W 6-2
Goals shared between Maddran (2), Arman, C Green & Roll (2) see St Johns comfortably through.

Quarter Final v Shenley W 3-1
Fellow Div 2 side beaten as Collard, Merridan and that man Maddran clinch a semi final spot.

Semi Final v Certi FC W 4-1
Semi Final delight as St John’s book a trip to Marlow with goals from Gomes, Avis, C Green & Roll.
