Affiliation

Affiliated football

By affiliating to Berks & Bucks FA, Clubs have access to the support structures that help make football the strongest and most popular grassroots team sport in England.

In addition to being able to access our wide range of development and support initiatives, affiliated Clubs are able to participate in locally sanctioned Leagues safe in the knowledge that they are supported and governed by The FA's comprehensive disciplinary and safeguarding regulations.

Clubs also have access to comprehensive insurance coverage and emergency aid equipment at competitive prices as part of their affiliation application.

Important information about the 2020/21 affiliation

Key news, deadlines and information

Clubs: Affiliation opens 1 July 2020 Leagues: Sanctioning opens 1 August 2020

There is no formal deadline for affiliation, however every Team must be affiliated before it can play.

In light of the disruption to the 2019/20 season following the coronavirus pandemic, we are pleased to announce that Club and Team affiliation for the 2020/21 season will be free of charge.

We will also be waiving all basic Public Liability fees for any Club wishing to purchase insurance through the National Game Insurance Scheme offered by Bluefin Sports (only applicable to Clubs at Step 5 and below of the National League System).

Any outstanding fees from the 2019/20 season (including disciplinary fines) must be paid before the Club can affiliate.

League Sanction costs remain at the same level as the 2019/20 season, however there is a £1 increase in the cost of Public Liability Insurance.

We are intending to run all Berks & Bucks FA County Cups as normal in the 2020/21 season. However, this is reliant on Competitions starting no later than 1 November 2020

As we do not currently know whether we will be able to run Competitions, entry will not be managed through the affiliation process as in previous seasons. Instead, we will run a separate entry process later in the year should we be in a position to run our County Cups.

All active League Player Registrations expired on 31 May 2020. Clubs are therefore now able to manually detach players from their Clubs if needed and upload new photos ready for submission for the 2020/21 season.

Clubs can attach players and assign them to the relevant Team at any stage after affiliation opens, however please remember the dates for League registrations are set by individual competitions.

From the 2021/22 season it will be mandatory for all Players to be registered to Leagues on the Whole Game System via their Club. Part of this requirement is that every player must also have a unique email address. If this does not already form part of a Club’s membership procedures, you are strongly advised to consider adding it this season.

Further guidance on how to do manage this process for youth players will be issued in due course.

Safeguarding Requirements of Affiliation

What you need to be compliant

Any individual coaching under 18s must hold an FA-approved DBS check issued within the past three years.

All clubs with youth teams must have a Club Welfare Officer (CWO) appointed. Club welfare officers require an in-date, FA-approved DBS check and must have attended an FA Safeguarding course and Welfare Officer Workshop.

For all clubs with youth teams, the Chairperson, Secretary, Welfare Officer and Treasurer must also have completed the online Safeguarding for Committee Members course within the past FOUR years.

All Youth League officials must have completed the online Safeguarding for Committee Members course within the past FOUR years.

Earlier this summer The FA placed a hold on all DBS applications and agreed that the renewal date for any DBS due to expire between 1 March 2020 and 1 October 2020 would be extended by one year.

Following the recent relaxation of lockdown restrictions, Clubs are now able to resume verifying documents and submitting DBS applications as normal.

This means*:

1. Any NEW coach taking on a role must apply for a DBS as normal;

2. Any coach with a DBS which expired before 1 March 2020 will need to submit a new DBS application if they have not already done so (this includes resubmitting any application which was awaiting verification or payment);

3. Any coach with a DBS which expires between 1 March and 1 October 2020 will be deemed to possess an in-date DBS and will not need to submit a renewal until next year.

*Please note that this is a temporary measure which may be amended at any stage.
