Wycombe Wanderers launch Chairboys Chats
Wycombe Wanderers, in collaboration with its charitable arm, the Sports & Education Trust (WWSET), is launching a new matchday initiative for the 2022/23 season which invites male fans to get together after home games, to discuss issues relating to mental health and wellbeing.
Chairboys Chats aims to provide male fans with an informal space and support network to talk openly about football, but with focused conversations around topics that influence men’s mental health and well-being. Across the sessions, there will be a variety of guest speakers, all of whom have either lived experience or interest in the topics of discussion.
Simon Wears, WWSET’s Head of Health, said “Life, particularly in today’s current circumstances, can be difficult to navigate and men can often find it hard to find a supportive outlet for some of the pressures they face. Chairboys Chat will be completely relaxed and friendly and will be appealing to fans who simply want to get together with others and have conversations about football and whatever else comes up over a brew.
“There’s no need to book on to the sessions – you can simply turn up if and when you want – and rest assured that refreshments will always be provided.”
BBFA recognises the importance of mental health alongside physical health. We are massively supportive of initiatives set up to support those involved in football with their mental health and wellbeing. We see the purpose of football as a way to “Connect People and Change Lives” and improving and reducing the stigmas around mental health and wellbeing is a huge part of this.
The following Chairboys Chat sessions have been confirmed for the first half of the 2022/23 season:
● Saturday 1st October 2022 (Plymouth)
● Saturday 15th October 2022 (Peterborough)
