February marks LGBT+ History Month and is Football v Homophobia's Month of Action

Football v Homophobia (FvH) Grassroots is an initiative to get grassroots football clubs to once again take action to help tackle LGBT+ discrimination in football throughout February, the FvH Month of Action.

Whilst COVID-19 has disrupted the playing season, the Month of Action will still go ahead. We are inviting clubs to register their involvement in the Month of Action in the usual way, via our website.

As grassroots football is suspended during February, we are instead asking clubs to take some time during this pause, to reflect on their current position around LGBT+ inclusion. 

Clubs can use the Month of Action to share a meaningful action, or actions, that will be taken to increase LGBT+ inclusion and to take a stand against LGBT+ phobia. 

To support clubs and individuals take action, FvH are hosting a series of virtual webinars, workshops and panel discussions. Here are just a few of the seminars we think you might be interested in:

LGBT+ INCLUSIVE NON-LEAGUE CLUBS: AN INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP
Tuesday 16th February, 6pm-8pm

An interactive workshop exploring how to make non-league football a great place for LGBT+ people

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION IN FOOTBALL MEDIA
Friday 19th February, 6:30pm-8pm

From reporting diverse and inclusive stories, to representation in the media, the panel will consider the important part journalists play in pushing for change in football.

CREATE THE SPACE: LGBT+ IDENTITY IN WOMEN'S FOOTBALL
Friday 19th February, 7pm

Join host, Sky Sports presenter Jess Creighton, and our panel as we explore LGBT+ contributions and representation within the women’s game.

LGBT+ INCLUSIVE JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLUBS: AN INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP
Tuesday 23rd February 6pm-8pm

An interactive workshop exploring how we can make junior football a great place for LGBT+ children and young people.

BEING AN LGBT+ INCLUSIVE CLUB
Wed, 24 February 2021 (18:00 – 19:00 GMT)

Open to club officials at grassroots clubs, this session will help identify potential barriers for LGBT+ people in football and explore opportunities for clubs to tackle these.

LGBT+ 101 EDUCATION
Friday 26th February 4pm-6pm

An education session for young people, ideal for learning more about LGBT+ identities and being an ally! (Limited number of participants).

These, and other seminars and events available throughout the month, are aimed to be thought provoking, encourage reflection and amplify voices. The Football v Homophobia Youth Panel are also hosting a series of events for younger audiences, although they welcome attendance from people of any age. Take a look at the full schedule of events.

Additionally, once football returns, clubs will still be able to dedicate a matchday to FvH and receive a rainbow football, however clubs can do this at a time which they feel is safe. To apply, click here.

Finally, whilst February is a key month for LBGT+ Inclusion and awareness we are keen to hear from any clubs who wish to work with us as a flagship club promoting LGBT+ Inclusion and removing any potential barriers to participation througout the football season.
