A new summer football league for U21 players is to launch in Milton Keynes in an effort to help younger players progress through to adult football.

Nationally, adult male football is declining and for many young players, lifestyle changes, and a perceived negative perception of the environment in the adult male game is having an impact on adult 11v11 teams recruiting young players. We know that many players in this age group want to continuing playing, but can’t find the right opportunities locally. This is highlighted in Milton Keynes by a low number (2%) of 16-19 years olds playing Adult Sunday Football versus the national average of 11%.

After consultation with this age group; MK college; the MK Sunday League; and local clubs, we have decided to trial an U21 7v7 Summer League which will be held on Friday evenings from July 4th. Teams will have the option to include two players over the age of 21; this is to encourage playing with older players who may or may not already be attached to a 11 aside team whilst also helping give our U21’s the confidence to move into adult football.

The details of the MK Sevens League are below:

• 6-8pm Friday nights at Sport Central 3G
• FA qualified Refs 
• Minimum 25 minute games. 
• Starts 5th July 2019 for 6 weeks.
• £5 per player to register for the league then - £3 per match 
• Mixed gender teams welcome

The MK Sunday league have helped us identify the right officials and the College and clubs are helping us promote to players in this age band.

Teams can sign up by appointing a team captain and completing an online registration form by clicking the link below. Registration deadline is Friday 28 June 2019. Any players Captains list in their team online can turn up on the first evening, sign-up and pay their £5 registration fee on the night. After that, it is just £3 each per match.
