Football Remembers 2018

Find out how you can get involved and support Remembrance Day through football this weekend

Find out how you can get involved and support Remembrance Day through football this weekend.

Football Remembers is the partnership between The FA, the Premier League, the English Football League (EFL) and the Professional Football Association (PFA) to ensure football pays tribute to the sacrifice paid by so many, as a result of conflicts.

The initiative was launched to mark the centenary of the start of the First World War and now, in 2018, we reach 100 years since the end of the Great War.

As the 2018 Armistice weekend approaches, The FA are working with the Premier League, EFL and PFA to pay our respects and honour the brave Armed Forces personnel.

What can you do locally to support Remembrance Day?

Hope & Anchor and Finchampstead FC re-enact Truce Football Match

As part of the 'Battles Over - A Nations Tribute' event organised by Bracknell Town Council, two teams from the Bracknell & District Sunday Football League will take part in a re-enactment of the Truce Football Match.

Wearing traditional Officers clothing from the time, the teams and match officials will play out a 90 minute re-enactment of the famous football match.

Support your club in November

As always, football will commemorate Armistice Day at its fixtures; this year during matches over the weekends of 3-4 and 10-11 November. Working with the Royal British Legion (RBL), matches in the Premier League, EFL, The FA Women's Super League and Emirates FA Cup will see a special Armistice 100 commemorative coin used for the coin toss across these weekends. Matches will also be asked to hold a minute’s silence, wear black armbands and to consider adding poppy shirt logos to their shirts for the weekend.

Take part in the Royal British Legion’s Thank You Campaign

The FA are supporting the Royal British Legion’s Thank You campaign this year. The Royal British Legion is leading the nation in saying Thank You to all who served, sacrificed and changed our world during World War 1.

Take in a show: The Greater Game

Along with the EFL, the Premier League and the PFA, The FA are supporting The Greater Game, a theatrical production that tells the story of Clapton Orient and the men who swapped the football fields of London for the battle fields of the Somme in 1916.

The show runs from the 30 October to 25 November 2018 in Waterloo East Theatre.
