Reading World Cup 2018

From Russia (via Reading) with love...

The World Cup comes to Reading!

Sixteen adult men's teams from across the county accepted a special invitation from Berks & Bucks FA to help us celebrate the adult male game in our very own World Cup 2018 at Reading FC (3G) on Sunday 1st July.

A celebration of football, the teams that participated in the event were invited to attend because they had been created following funding received from either BBFA and/or the Football Foundation in support of the creation of an adult male teams over the past four years.

The themed event played out from the last 16 ‘knockout stages’ to the Final, all in one day.

To add to the excitement - and to celebrate the biggest football sporting event in the world - every team that participated was allocated at random a country from the last 16 of the tournament in Russia to represent on the day.

Whilst it certainly added to the atmosphere, we're hoping it wasn't a prediction of things to come, as, unfortunately, England didn't make it to the Quarter Final stage...

Blue sky’s and soaring temperatures only helped in delivering a fantastic event with all players and teams enjoying the opportunity to lift the World Cup.

The winners of the World Cup 2018?

In our Reading 2018 tournament, that honour went to Spain (...or rather... Theale FC) - well done guys!

We'd like to say a massive thank you to all teams, match officials, supporters and to Reading Community Trust for helping make the day such a success.
