Affiliation 2021/22

Affiliated football

By affiliating to Berks & Bucks FA, Clubs have access to the support structures that help make football the strongest and most popular grassroots team sport in England.

In addition to being able to access our wide range of development and support initiatives, affiliated Clubs are able to participate in locally sanctioned Leagues safe in the knowledge that they are supported and governed by The FA's comprehensive disciplinary and safeguarding regulations.

Clubs also have access to comprehensive insurance coverage and emergency aid equipment at competitive prices as part of their affiliation application.

Important information about the 2021/22 affiliation

Key news, deadlines and information

Clubs: Affiliation opens 1 June 2021 Leagues: Sanctioning opens 1 July 2021

There is no formal deadline for affiliation, however, every Team must be affiliated before it can play.

As part of our continued efforts to support the return of grassroots football after the COVID‐19 pandemic, we are pleased to confirm that Berks & Bucks FA will subsidise Club and Team affiliation fees for the 2021/22 season.

Unfortunately, we are not able to continue to subsidise public liability insurance for Clubs this season.

We are pleased to confirm that Berks & Bucks FA County Cups will return for the 2021/22 season in a new format.

Following a restructuring of our competitions in light of the impact of Covid, there will be a reduced programme of Cups available, with some changes to the entry criteria:
  • The Senior Cup is mandatory for Clubs with Teams competing in the National League System.
  • The Women’s Senior Cup is mandatory for Clubs with Teams competing at Tiers 1-6 of the Women’s Pyramid.
  • The Charles Twelftrees Trophy is optional for all other Saturday Clubs, with one Team entry per Club.
  • The Women’s Trophy is optional for all other Women’s Clubs, with one Team entry per Club.
  • The Sunday Cup is optional for Clubs whose First Teams play in the top divisions of each Sunday League.
  • The Sunday Trophy is optional for Clubs whose First Teams play outside the top divisions of each Sunday League, with one Team entry per Club.
  • The Youth Cups are optional for Clubs with Teams in those age groups, with one Team entry per Club.
  • The U12 and U13 Cups have separate Saturday and Sunday pathways, with the winner of each pathway competing in the Final. A Club can only enter one Team across both pathways (ie one U12 Team and one U13 Team).
  • Disability and Futsal Cups will have a separate entry process later in the season.

Any player registered with any Team within a Club in the relevant age group or day of the week will be eligible to play in Cup fixtures. Clubs will be able to enter Teams into the appropriate Cups as part of the Affiliation Process. Entries are £10 per Team.

Full County Cup rules for the 2021/22 season will be issued in due course.

Clubs are reminded that all players must now be registered via the Whole Game System.

Every player must be registered with their Club, Team/s and League and have a unique email address (or be linked to a parent with a unique email address). This applies across all age groups and formats.

The FA have created an extensive library of resources to support Clubs and Competitions with the registration process which is constantly updated with new information which can be accessed via their Grassroots Helpdesk.

If you need any support with the player registration process, please contact Support@Berks‐BucksFA.com

We will also be running online weekly clinics throughout August and September on Mondays (6:00 pm) and Thursdays (11:00 am).

Safeguarding Requirements of Affiliation

What you need to be compliant

Any individual coaching under 18s must hold an FA-approved DBS check issued within the past three years.

All clubs with youth teams must have a Club Welfare Officer (CWO) appointed. Club welfare officers require an in-date, FA-approved DBS check and must have attended an FA Safeguarding Children Course and Welfare Officer Workshop.

For all clubs with youth teams, the Chairperson, Secretary, Welfare Officer and Treasurer must also have completed the online Safeguarding for Committee Members course within the past five years.

All Youth League officials must have completed the online Safeguarding for Committee Members course within the past five years. Youth League Welfare Officers must also have an in‐date FA‐approved DBS check.

The FA has implemented further changes to DBS expiry dates due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Any DBS originally due to expire between 1 October 2020 and 31 May 2021 has been extended by one year. DBS checks which have previously been extended will NOT be extended again.

This means:

  • Any NEW coach taking on a role must apply for a DBS as normal
  • Any coach with a DBS which was originally due to expire between 1 March and 1 October 2020 will need to submit a new DBS application if they have not already done so (this includes resubmitting any application which was awaiting verification or payment before the first lockdown in March 2020)
  • Any coach with a DBS which was due to expire between 1 October 2020 and 31 May 2021 will be deemed to possess an in‐date DBS and will not need to submit a renewal until next year.
Please note that this is a temporary measure that may be amended at any stage.
