Chris Cole

Meet Chris Cole, our first Competitions Coordinator at Berks & Bucks FA. Chris talks about his passion for coaching disabled players and goalkeepers.

Chris is responsible for managing & administering all County Cup Competitions, from registration to organising the Final ties and to provide league support to all sanctioned competitions and leagues. Lets meet him...

I first got involved in football as a very young boy, when my older brother and his friends needed somebody to shoot at! But it must have worked as I played in goal through my school years representing both school and county, as well as my local team from youth to adult, playing in the then Welsh League. Whilst at University in Salford, I also briefly played in the Northern Conference until injury stopped my not very promising football career! I also started coaching whilst at University.

After graduating I took a break from football, working in the licenced and restaurant trade including running my own Gastro-Pub; but several years later, looking for a career change, decided to re-do my coaching badges and get involved in football again. I volunteered as a coach for Surrey FA, helping with their disability football league, which I have been involved with ever since and am currently treasurer and fixtures secretary.

This sparked a passion for disability football and I have been working with disabled footballers since, coaching for Chelsea FC for 8 years within their disability programmes, and for the last 3 years working as a Football Development officer for Surrey FA leading on Inclusion & Equality. Currently I am the Goalkeeping Coach for the FA South East Regional Talent Centre for Cerebral Palsy, part of the Elite Player Programme for Disabled Footballers. I am also involved in the Talent Identification Programme for Disability Football in the South East.

I also have a passion for coaching all goalkeepers and have recently been Goalkeeper Coach for several grass roots clubs, along with the Girls Player Development Centres for both Surrey FA and Berks & Bucks FA. I have Level 2; Level 2 Goalkeeping; Youth Module 3; Futsal; Coaching Disabled, Coaching Deaf and Coaching Blind Footballers qualifications. As of next season I will also be a FA Safeguarding Children tutor.

I am really excited to have joined the team here, and am very much looking forward to making competing in football in Berks & Bucks an excellent experience for all involved.
