Arun joined as Football Administration Apprentice in October 2015, he tells us about growing up on Guernsey and his apprenticeship

Born and raised on Guernsey, Channel Islands I started play football for my first club as soon as I hit the age of 5. Football and sport in general kept me occupied on a somewhat small and isolated island which has developed me into a very competitive person. My playing highlights involve playing for Guernsey representative teams at U12, U14 and U16 level. At U14s I was also lucky to be a part of a selected group to trial at the linked club Bristol City (sadly because of my physical size I was turned away). In my final season of development football I was part of a Guernsey Rovers U18 team that won the domestic treble and ended the season unbeaten.

I moved over to Oxfordshire in September 2015 in search of a job or college course to do as I did not apply to university after completing my A-levels. I’ve had previous experience in administration roles at local car dealerships and an insurance company back in Guernsey but did not generate a spark like football and sport did. I found the Berks & Bucks Apprenticeship with Abingdon & Witney College and applied. My role in Football administration has been a lot more exciting than first thought, as I have had great opportunities to get out of the office and provide administration help at our competitions, festivals and tournaments. I also provide a unique supportive role for both our Football Services and Football Development teams.

In my spare time I watch football (proud support of Nottingham Forest), go running and play cricket in the summer season. I also represented teams for Guernsey Cricket at U15, U17 and U19 level and played in 2 major ICC tournaments at U15 and U19.
