Alex Smith

Alex joined us in October 2017 as Football Services Administrator. To find out more about him, read on below.

My earliest footballing memory was seeing Coventry City win 7-0 against Macclesfield Town in 1999. Unfortunately, my subsequent support of the Sky Blues has never reached such highs since! I have always enjoyed watching and playing football, despite my limited ability. I started off between the posts for my school team before moving into various defensive positions. Playing for the Christian Union team at University was a fun, but often muddy, experience. Although being a lifelong Coventry supporter, I am also a keen follower of non-league football and have developed an allegiance to Worcester City over the years. It’s great to stand a few yards away from the action when watching lower league football!

Having grown up in the lovely town of Leamington Spa, I spent three years studying History at the University of Southampton. After graduating, I went on to work at a Christian Outdoor Activity Centre on the coast in Essex, during which time I also married. Whilst working at the centre, I gained numerous qualifications leading a variety of exciting activities, including sailing, power-boating, high ropes, kayaking and archery. My wife’s job led us to the delightfully practical town of Swindon just over a year ago. Prior to joining the Berks & Bucks FA, I gained classroom experience as a Teaching Assistant in a local school.

Away from the office, I love to play, watch and follow a variety of sports. Since moving to Swindon, I have joined a local cricket club and enjoyed a mostly successful summer season. I am undoubtedly a sports enthusiast and relish putting my knowledge to the test watching A Question of Sport. My wife and I love exploring the countryside and are out-and-about walking most weekends. Back at home, I enjoy reading when I can, my favourite authors being Anthony Horowitz and Ian Fleming – I’m currently working my way through the James Bond novels.

I have always been hopeful of finding a role within sport and am extremely pleased to now be sitting here as a Football Services Administrator with the Berks & Bucks FA. I am looking forward to working alongside the Berkshire Schools’ FA and the Buckinghamshire Schools’ FA in supporting the administration of schools’ football. Having played for the majority of the sports teams at school, I benefited greatly from such experiences and am delighted to be able to support the provision of football for young people in this role.
