South East Counties Ladies Championship
Hampshire FA [1] – Berks & Bucks FA [1] 29th January 2008
Berks & Bucks travelled Hartley Witney FC to take on Hampshire, one of the favourites for the league title. The home side having played 2 matches scoring 16 goals and conceding only 2.
Although the home side, made up largely of Portsmouth Ladies players had most of the procession, it was the visitors who had the first good chance after 17 minutes to open the scoring. Good work by Lauren Goodier set Zoe Lance free down the left and her pin point cross was met beautifully by debutant Kate Norman to slot home from 10 yards.
The first real chance the home side came after 24 minutes when a strong run and shot by Fiona McMillan went just wide of the post. Another player making her debut was keeper Kristen Dorsch, and whilst the defence although under pressure were coping well with the numerous raids from the home side, Kristen dealt well with the few balls that came through to her.
As half time was drawing on, Hampshire again mounted another attack, which resulted in winning a corner. It was from this, and in added time that the ball was slotted home in a crowded area to give the home side the goal that in fairness there play had deserved.
The second half was more of the same, but all the Berks & Bucks players led as usual by Suen Odeniyi although having to work extremely hard, coped reasonably well with the home sides attacks.
In fact it was the visitors who had the more clear cut chances on goal, with the home side for most of the time having to try long range shots to get past a stubborn defence. After 58 minutes Lauren Goodier had a chance but snatched her shot which went wide. Within 2 minutes another great chance saw her just outside the area winning a challenge, seeing the keeper racing back into position her shot looked goal bound until a great save from Rachel Simkin prevented a goal being scored. On 67 minutes Hampshire thought they were going to add a second when a great shot by Nadine Welland was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Kristen Dorsch.
The game continued with both sides putting on a good performance for the crowd. The last minutes of the game saw the home side desperate to score the winning goal and with 5 minutes remaining hit the post, with the rebound falling to Cath Andrews to knock clear.
The game ended, as it had begun with the home side mounting an attack and the visitors all showing great resolve and determination to end the match deservedly 1 goal apiece.

Oxfordshire (1) v Berks & Bucks (2) 19th December 2007
For their second league match of the season’s campaign, Berks & Bucks took on local rivals Oxfordshire without their normal strike duo of Sue Oakley and Lauren Goodier and Michelle Elrick replacing the injured Lucia Masella in goal.
On a cold and foggy evening the game started with both teams trying to find a way through two stubborn defences. First real chance of the match was not until 15 minutes when Freya Coombe went close with a long range shot that went just wide. Berks & Bucks opened the scoring 5 minutes later, following a cross from right wing by Freya Coombe which was met by Kimberley McGlenn to slot home. Although the visitors were having most of the play, they were not gaining the opportunities to add to their tally. Heather McDonnell and Zoe Lance combined well together but the final shot was easily collected by the home keeper. The same pair again worked well on 41 minutes but a good save from Hannah Cox in the Oxfordshire goal prevented a great shot from Heather McDonnell increasing the lead for Berks & Bucks.
The second half started with the home side the stronger, and it was no surprise when after 59 minutes they drew level when Steph Hobbs pounced on a mistake by the keeper to knock in from 5 yards.
Chances for Berks & Bucks were few, but with one of them Rebecca Todd had a great shot just cleared by home defence after 63 minutes; soon after Freya Coombe had effort beat the keeper, but home defender cleared off the line.
It was more good approach play after 76 minutes that gave Berks & Bucks the winning goal, the ball was well worked by Katie Bowers & Freya Coombe down the right flank to give a half chance to Heather McDonnell who controlled to ball well to ram home from 10 yards.
The home side increased the pressure to try to gain the equaliser, but the home defence, well marshalled by Seun Odeniyi held out to gain their first victory of their league campaign.

Sussex 4-2 Berks & Bucks – Thursday 18th October 2007
Berks & Bucks opened their league campaign with a visit to Arundel to take on Sussex FA.
The opening exchanges were even, but the home side did look the more dangerous; however it was the visitors who opened the scoring on 12 minutes when Leanne Burns 25 yard effort found the top corner.
Sussex pressured their opponents and Lucia Masella was called on to bring off a good save on 19 minutes from Clare Trafford. The home side were looking dangerous and the B&B defence, well marshalled as usual by Seun Odeniyi was able to stand firm. Play continued to be a battle in mid field with the home side gradually gaining control, so it was no surprise when just before half time they drew level when Amy Found unchallenged, headed home from 8 yards following their third corner in quick succession. In first half added time Sussex thought they had taken the lead but their effort was ruled off side.
The second half saw the home side grow in cofindence and chances for their opponents were very few, Sue Oakley and Zoe Lance worked well together in the opening minutes but the final shot from Lance went just wide. It was no surprise when the home side took the lead when a shot from Amy Found, scoring her second goal of the match from just inside the box, was deflected past Masella.
With just under 20 minutes remaining the home side increased their lead when Clare Trafford beat 3 defenders to easily slot home goal no 3. They completed their scoring following a penalty that was awarded following a challenge from substitute Rebecca Todd. The referee seemed to indicate an indirect free kick initially, but then pointed to the spot; Trafford made no mistake, scoring her second to make it 4-1.
Berks & Bucks kept on battling, and it was a reward for their hard work that they managed to score their second when Lauren Goodier and Natalie Robinson worked well to create an opening for Cath Andrews who made no mistake to make the final score line 4-2 to the home side.
