Chair of the Board of Directors

Position: Berks & Bucks FA – Chair of the Board of Directors
Location: Our Office is based in Abingdon (OX14 1SG) the majority of the role can be conducted remotely.

Salary: This is a voluntary position; reasonable expenses will be paid in line with our policy.
Hours: 
It is expected that this role will require (on average) 5-10 hours per month.


The opportunity


We are looking for an experienced Chair who has led a similarly complex organisation, a person with a track record of supporting a board to continuously improve. You will be credible, influential, and passionate, with a skill set that will help us to make strong business and football decisions whilst maintaining the highest standards of governance. 

We aim to appoint an inspirational and credible leader of the utmost integrity with an appreciation for grassroots football, membership organisations and the complexities of working with a membership of volunteers. Supported by the executive team, led by the CEO, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of the organisation and for grassroots football across Berkshire & Buckinghamshire. 

Main responsibilities 

Serve as a Director of the Association and to lead the Board in setting the strategy of the Association.
Execute the responsibilities of a Company Director in accordance with the Companies Act (2006) and other relevant legislation.
Serve as a Director of the Association and to lead the Board in setting the strategy of the Association.
Execute the responsibilities of a Company Director in accordance with the Companies Act (2006) and other relevant legislation.
Lead the Board in the approval of the long-term financial plan and annual budget.
Chair Board meetings effectively, ensuring that Directors receive accurate, timely and clear information and that adequate time is available for discussion and time is used productively.
Lead the Board in demonstrating transparency and accountability, engaging effectively with stakeholders and nurturing internal democracy.
Monitor the delivery of the strategic plan and objectives of the Association.
Manage the performance of the CEO, providing opportunities for coaching and development as required.
Act as an ambassador and represent the Association at internal and external meetings and functions.

A person with strong inter-personal skill and an ability to  influence collaboration and outcomes with an outstanding commitment and passion to grassroots football. 

You'll really impress us if...

You have knowledge of key legislation areas affecting businesses, a knowledge of safeguarding and experience of managing organisational performance.
