Online Support for Coaches

Keeping our network of coaches connected during lockdown

Bringing our Coaching Community together.

The Berks & Bucks FA Online Coaching Programme (OCP) was launched in March this year shortly after the country entered lockdown as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The programme was initially introduced as a way for us to stay connected with our network of dedicated coaches whilst also providing them with the opportunity, and the environment, to continue to learn and develop despite not being able to be out on the pitch.

Split across four categories from Saturday morning CPD sessions, Q&As and Online Match Reviews to live interviews with top regional and national coaches, players and managers in an extension of our popular podcast, The Grassroots Football Coach, our first Podcast Live! webinar was on 26th March.

Since then we've gone on to produce over 45 hours of content featuring guest tutors and hosts including regional FA Tutors, National Phase Leads, including Pete Sturgess and Graeme Carrick to current and former pros including Emmerson Boyce, QPR's Chris Ramsay, Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth and many others. What's more, the programme continues to go from strength-to-strength and its been fantastic to see some terrific participation and input from our coaches over the last couple of months.

David Summers, Moretonville Juniors U11s & U14s Coach, said: “They (the sessions) have been superb, always have lots of things to takeaway from each session and it's just great to hear people talking about football coaching. Everyone has had their own personal challenges getting through this time and these sessions have honestly been a real lifeline at times. In the same way that coaching youth football gives you a break from the stresses of day-to-day life and the chance to forget about things for a couple of hours, these sessions have done exactly the same thing - and is a reminder of why we all love coaching.”

The OCP was developed by Berks & Bucks FA, Football Development Officer, Richard Brant, he said: “Across the 36 webinar’s we’ve held to date, we have over 46 hours of content which have been delivered by 16 tutors/guests which has been accessed over 2,500 times. The coaches who have attended the sessions have provided great value and insight into the interactive sessions. I have been working closely with our FA County Coach Developer, Mark Rivers and would like to thank him, the tutors and guests for their time and input. During this period we haven't been able to go on the pitch and do what we love but the programme has certainly enabled coaches to network and share ideas and I’m looking forward to continuing these sessions in June and July.”

The next Online Coaching Programme session is on Monday 8th June at 7pm as we hear from FA Youth Development Phase Lead, Graeme Carrick, in a special #BBFAPodcast Live! episode. Following that, the programme returns on 13th June for our weekly Saturday morning CPD session at 10am.
