Luke Almeida, BBFA Youth Council member recently had the opportunity to attend the National FA Leadership Academy at St. Georges Park along with other Youth Council members from across the country.
The opportunity was exclusively for individuals who are a part of a county FA Youth Council and are looking to develop their leadership skills. The fully paid 3 night trip was a fitting reward for Luke’s hard work since joining the Youth Council and his efforts to help establish the council and grow it to its current strong position.
The FA National Leadership Academy is an annual event ran by the FA to help educate and further develop aspiring young leaders across the country.
I spent 4 days at the Leadership Academy at St. Georges Park, training ground for the England national team. In the time I spent there I undertook workshops on how to divide time effectively, keep yourself healthy and happy and how to motivate others.
One idea we looked at is the idea of a SHED, this is made up of four components; sleep, hydration, exercise and diet and is a theory on how to maximise effectiveness. On Wednesday we visited a local forest and participated in team building activities as well as theories to increase confidence and performance. Throughout the week I feel that I grew in knowledge, confidence and most of all met many fantastic people, making many friends from Norfolk to Newcastle and even Jordan!
I want to thank the Berks & Bucks FA and the BBFA Youth Council for the fantastic opportunity. As well as them, my mentor for the week and upcoming season Mike Gilham from Surrey FA and the National FA Youth Council for their brilliant organisation.
I am really excited about continuing to work with the New BBF Youth Council this season and putting into practice all the new skills I have learnt at the FA Leadership Academy!
