FA Community Clubs

The FA Community Club scheme builds upon the foundations of the Charter Standard scheme in placing clubs at the heart of their community. Community Clubs, the pinnacle of the club development pathway, are those that have a high quality, multi-team (minimum of 10 teams) set up with excellent social, training and playing opportunities for all. As such, the number of Community Clubs is one of the truest measures of success for The FA Football Development strategy.

All new FA Community Clubs are required to meet FA criteria, ensuring they provide opportunities for players irrespective of age, gender, religion and ability. Clubs must also provide qualified coaches, first aiders and child protection officers.

WANTAGE TOWN FC
The first in depth article on our Community Clubs focuses on Wantage Town F.C and the Grove and Wantage Community Charter Standard Football Partnership.

Wantage Town F.C. has affiliated to the Berks & Bucks FA since 1892 and is going stronger than ever. With sound management in place throughout the Club, on and off of the pitch, and with growing support from the local community, the Club has a unique opportunity to put in place the foundation upon which progress to a higher level of football may be made. This has been reinforced with the award of the F.A. Charter Standard, and the establishment of a F.A. Charter Community Football Partnership, which brings together all of the footballing interests in the area of Wantage and Grove, with Wantage Town F.C at its' hub.

Formed in 2008 the “GWCCSFP” was formed to bring together all levels of football in the Grove & Wantage area to coordinate funding needs of the member clubs. The membership currently consists of five clubs who have all achieved Charter Standard in there own right.

Current Membership consists of:
Grove Rangers FC (Adult Football)
Grove Challengers FC (Children’s Football)
Wantage Concordes (Children’s Football)
Wantage Girls (Girls Football)
Wantage Town FC (Youth, Adult & Veterans Football)

The partnership is working very closely with King Alfred Schools coordinating ground sharing and facility development, and are actively developing closer links with disadvantaged schools to promote further football activity.
