Coaches can achieve a qualification - the 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football.

The Football Association has announced a new addition to its family of coaching qualifications awarded in partnership with 1st4sport Qualifications, now coaches will be able to achieve a new qualification - the 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football. The new award will be the first accredited coaching course to incorporate interactive e-learning.

The qualification has been developed by experts from grassroots football ensuring that it provides the best introduction for a new coach. The content of the course will include many popular and important elements of the F.A Junior Team Managers' Award, including the FA Emergency Aid and the FA Child Protection Workshop. It will also include the following interactive e-learning modules Football Administration, Player and Coach Development, Laws of the Game and Soccer Parent.

The qualification will be offered in two parts, completion of both parts will require candidates to be assessed against criteria for their knowledge and coaching ability. Those who choose not to go forward for assessment or those not achieving the Level 1 will receive The F.A. Assistant Club Coach Award enabling them to assist an appropriately qualified coach. Those who do choose to go forward for assessment and achieve Level 1 will receive The F.A. Club Coach Award.

Candidates who have successfully completed an F.A. Junior Team Managers Award between 1 August 2001 and 1 August 2002 may, on completion of the distance learning modules and the internal assessment, go forward for the final assessment to achieve the Club Coach Award.

Another exciting development is that the Level 1 encourages progression not only into coaching, but also into other areas of football including: Officiating, Administration and Sports Therapy. The F.A. believe that this new qualification will provide people with a fantastic introduction to coaching, advice, ongoing support and lots of practical ideas.
