The Berks & Bucks FA in association with County Coaching held its first Charter Standard coaching day at Sandhurst Town Boys & Girls FC last Saturday (9th October)
Expert coach and experienced coach educator Jim Kelman and Berks & Bucks FA County Development Manager Ben Bartlett delivered the day, the first of its kind, to enhance the knowledge of club coaches holding the FA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football and to provide an insight into the requirements of undertaking the FA Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football.
The day allowed coaches to reflect upon elements from their level one course that they still made positive use of and looked at attitudes and ethics of coaches.
Time was also spent supporting the coaches to devise coaching programmes addressing the key facets of our national game in a structured, time defined fashion which would ultimately create a club coaching programme to encourage standardisation through the club and to focus upon player development.
The afternoon was then spent out on the field, providing examples of positive warm up and cool down exercises and taking the group through a range of technical, related and small sided game practices covering passing, turning and dribbling.
Stephen Cheek, Coaching Development Officer at Sandhurst Town Boys & Girls FC, who helped to organise the day said:
"This day was an extremely useful tool for the coaches at this club in both enhancing their knowledge of coaching and to provide a stepping stone towards acheiving their Level 2 coaching qualification"
He continued:
"The delivery was excellent and the coaches found it valuable and educational in equal measure"
Delivered as part of the Berks & Bucks FA's commitment to supporting both charter standard clubs and developing excellent coaches in the two counties; the event also provided an opportunity for the County FA to gauge coaches feelings towards to establishing a County Coaches Association.
