Reading Town of the Hellenic League, won this season's Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy with a clinical 2-0 victory Newport Pagnell Town of the United Counties League at Northcourt Road, the home of Abingdon United F.C.

On a hard surface, Reading settled early on with twin strikers Graham Lewis and Danny Williamson keeping the Newport defence busy on a number of occasions. Reading defender Sam Flegg headed wide from a corner when well placed on 27 minutes but the Berkshire club eventually took the lead after 33 minutes when a Lewis free kick was met by a powerful header from inside the penalty area by Mike Hancock. Lewis nearly made it 2-0 just before half time but his weaving run into the penalty area was finally thwarted by a great save from Newport keeper, James Howarth.

After half time, Reading continued to press forward with an ever increasing dominance in midfield and the game was effectively sealed on 57 minutes when Newport skipper, John Thorpe, handled the ball inside the penalty area, with the resultant spot kick being duly despatched by the ever confident Lewis.

As Newport tired in the latter stages, Reading could have increased their tally on a number of occasions but Howarth excelled himself by pulling off a number of quality saves.

The Trophy was presented to Reading Town at the end of the game, along with medals to all players and officials by Mr. Bill Gosling, President and Life Member of the Berks & Bucks Football Association.
