SATURDAY JUNIOR CUP - SEASON 2008/2009

Final game played on Saturday 18th April 2009 at Olney Town FC(By kind permission)

255 Alpha Arms Accademicals      0    v   1*     P & IC United

Attendance 178

P & IC United of the Aylesbury & District League became the first team from this league to lift the B&B Saturday Junior Cup for twenty one years, when they beat Alpha Arms Academicals 1-0 after extra time at Olney Town in front of a healthy crowd of 178.

The previous winners from the ADL were Stone in 1987/88 season.

P & IC United started strongly and nearly went ahead after 17 minutes, when a cross-shot by Jamie Edwards hit the crossbar and bounced down awkwardly and Carl Fox was unable to force home the rebound. Alpha Arms started to get back in the game and created some good chances and in the 33rd minute Amin Khomsi flicked the ball on to Jamie Lee Di Guiseppe whose shot was well saved by Nik Sabatini in the P & IC Utd goal. Alpha Arms created further chances without a goal and were on top as the half time whistle sounded.

At the start of he second half P & IC started to raise the pace, and brought on two useful substitutes in Darren Caseman and Curtis Donaldson, who started to run at the Alpha Arms defence. After 68 minutes a long throw by Karl Thomas was headed on by Darren Caseman and the shot by Michael Finn  was well saved by Jose Faria. Shortly afterwards Alpha Arms strike Jamie Lee Di Guiseppe broke through but his final shot went wide. In the 36th minute Carl Fox missed a good chance in the six yard box, after he had been set up by Curtis Donaldson. By now it was end to end stuff and Amin Khomsi had a shot tipped over by the P&IC Utd keeper. With time running out the pressure was starting to build from P&IC Utd and after a good run by Curtis Donaldson, his final shot just scrapped past the post with the keeper well beaten.

At the start of extra time, P & IC Utd nearly took the lead when Darren Caseman’s shot on the turn in the box was well saved. After 100 minutes a good cross by Dave Hedley was missed by Carl Fox in the box.

Right at the start of the second period of extra time, P & IC United took the lead, when a run by Curtis Donaldson down the right, finished with a unstoppable shot that beat the Alpha Arms keeper. Alpha Arms tried to get back into the game but the P & IC defence held firm with Dave Edwards and Matt Wort strong at the back, foiling all chances.

The Cup and medals were presented to the victorious P & IC United, by Mr Bill Gosling, President and Life Member of the Berks & Bucks Football Association.
