Sunday, 17 July 2005.
Final played on Sunday 24th April 2005 at Thatcham Town FC.
Reading Girls 0 - 4 Reading Royals Ladies
FOUR second-half goals saw Royals lift the Berks and Bucks Womens Cup. With the red-hot South West Combination title favourites taking on the Southern Region League Division 1 champions, an interesting game was in prospect.
In the first half Royals' main threat came from Cheryl Williams' free-kicks, but they were able to unable to create any real chances. Kelly Chambers headed over the bar from a Williams free-kick, and Sophie Mabbett was denied by keeper Jo Williams. Then skipper Shelley Strudley blasted a Williams corner over the bar. Shortly before half-time Susannah Abbott had a good chance, but shot tamely at Williams. Reading Girls defended solidly, but when the gained possession were unable to provide any great number for any attacking ambitions.
Royals started the second half in the same manner as the first and were nearly rewarded in the 57th minute when Chambers headed Williams' cross against the underside of the bar. Within a minute, Royals were ahead, when Abbott broke away down the left wing and Carla Rose, coming in at the far post, stooped to head the ball into the net.
There was a scare for Royals when Jo Madzelewski threatened to grab a shock equaliser, but her shot was saved. Royals immediately went on the attack and Rose was brought down by Lian Ryan and Williams made no mistake from the penalty spot in the 64th minute.
Williams, the most creative player on the field, was involved in the move which led to Abbott making it 3-0 with a low drive after 79 minutes. Tracey Beales went close to scoring for Reading Girls before substitute Sarah Lipscombe added the fourth goal, five minutes from time with a neat lob over Williams from the edge of the area.
