AYLESBURY UNITED v WYCOMBE WANDERERS 2-3

Wycombe Wanderers won the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup for the first time in 15 years when they beat Aylesbury United 3-2 at the Causeway Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday.
All the goals came in an entertaining second half as Wycombe opened the scoring early after the break through Russell Martin, went two up soon after as Kieron Gradwell finished off after a goalmouth scramble, but Drew Roberts netted moments later to give Aylesbury hope. Jonny Dixon restored Wycombe’s two-goal lead with a bizarre goal, before Wycombe allowed drew Roberts the freedom of the park to score from the kick off in an excellent show of sportsmanship. Aylesbury had some excellent chances to take the match into extra time, but none were converted.
In a bright start, Sonny Ball and Adrian Caceres had good chances for Wycombe. Aylesbury came back and Gavin Jaggard had two close range efforts saved by Steve Williams.
Aylesbury started the second half strongly and Paul Edgeworth went close with a dipping shot. Wycombe hit back and Jack Rashid made an excellent save to keep out Adrian Caceres shot. Wycombe went ahead after 53 minutes, when Russell Martin, whose shot beat Rashid at the near post, picked up Shahid Ahmed’s through ball down the line. Aylesbury responded well and should have equalised but Drew Roberts sliced his shot wide. Wycombe doubled their advantage after 61 minutes when Kieron Gradwell swivelled to score from the loose ball, after Jack Rashid had brilliantly saved a point-blank shot from Caceres. Aylesbury pulled a goal back after 65 minutes when Drew Roberts took advantage of a mix-up between Nethercott and Gradwell to lob the ball over the stranded Williams. After 80 minutes Colin Baker had a chance to equalise, when he raced through on goal, but his finish rolled inches wide of the post. After 82minutes came the extraordinary double incident. Jonny Dixon was meant to sportingly kick the ball back to Aylesbury goalkeeper Jack Rashid, after Stuart Nethercott, was down injured, but from the halfway line the ball took off and flew past the embarrassed goalkeeper into the net. Wycombe Assistant Manager Steve Brown immediately ordered his team to allow Aylesbury to score and Drew Roberts did just that for the easiest and most bizarre goal he would ever score. There was still time for another chance and Williams had to produce an excellent save from Neil Lazarus to prevent the match going into extra time.
