FA Charter Standard

The FA Charter Standard Scheme is a core component of The FA Football Development programme. The scheme establishes minimum standards for football development and acts as a quality assurance mechanism recognising well run clubs. As a benchmark for quality, it will improve the playing experience for all.

The FA Charter Standard Club Programme has three levels:
FA Charter Standard Club (Youth, Adult)                                                                                                                            FA Charter Standard Development Club
FA Charter Standard Community Club.

How do I achieve the FA Charter Standard?

A step by step guide has have been created to highlight the process clubs will go through when striving to achieve the FA Charter Standard.

Step 1
Download a Charter Standard application form and familiarise yourself with what criteria your club needs to meet in order to achieve the award.

Step 2
Contact the County Football Development Department on 01367 242505 or email Charterstandard@berks-bucksfa.com where you will be assisted through the early stages and the criteria explained in more detail. Following the initial contact you will have a better idea of the pathway of action to follow and a better understanding of the process and what is involved.

Step 3
Once information is passed onto your club and the club is in agreement to proceed, then you are on your way. This is when we can assist you even further to achieve that end goal. There will of course be questions and areas for clarification. We will support you all the way on the phone, email, by club visits or if you prefer, you can come into the office for more direct support from the team. You will also find some useful templates for criteria in the "related documents" section on this page (see right).

Step 4
Once we have received your completed application, we carefully check all the criteria has been met, and will advise of any evidence missing or criteria not quite met. Step 5 is achieved when we have a fully competed application.

Step 5
The application is then taken to Berks & Bucks FA's Charter Standard working party meeting for final comments. Final adjustments or amendments may be required at this stage. A member of the Berks & Bucks FA Development Team will contact the club after the meeting with news of their application.

Step 6
If all criteria are met your application is sent to the National FA for final approval.

Step 7
Your club is now an FA Charter Standard Club. The club will be contacted directly by the National FA with your award and Berks & Bucks FA will arrange, where possible, to present you with your well earned award. Well done!
