Talking Tactics

Mental Health is important; we’re Talking Tactics

Mental Health is important so we’re ‘Talking Tactics’

Berks & Bucks FA have partnered with Reading FC to help end the stigma surrounding Mental Health and promote everyone’s wellbeing through the power of football.

Every month we will open the doors of the Madejski Stadium to have a cup of tea, talk about football, watch some football, learn more about mental heath services across our region and we will also be visited by some guest speakers from time to time.

One in four adults will experience mental illness so we think its time to talk tactics. Below you will find some more information about ‘Talking Tactics’ and this is your chance to be part of the team tackling mental illness.

What is Talking Tactics?

It’s a monthly get together to have a cup of tea, talk about football and talk about our mental health. If there’s a game of TV, we will put it on to watch. Occasionally we will have a guest speaker to come and talk to us.

Who can attend Talking Tactics?

Anyone aged 18+. If you think you would benefit from attending Talking Tactics, then you will be welcome.

What can I expect if I attend a Talking Tactics get together?

A cup of tea, a little bit of food and a nice chat. There will be lots of conversations about all things football, but you’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about some of the mental health services and activities running across our region.  From time to time we will have a guest speaker join us and if there is a Friday night game on TV we will put it on for all to enjoy.

Are you professional therapists and able to offer professional counselling?

No, we are all volunteers who mostly work for Berks & Bucks FA and Reading FC. We will have lots of information about professional services within the room for you to explore and talk about. From time to time we will be joined by guest speakers from these professional services.

We have established a partnership with Talking Therapies who are an NHS service who offer these services within Berkshire. If you think you might require professional help reach out to them (www.talkingtherapies.berkshire.nhs.uk).

When, where and what time will Talking Tactics take place?

Our first get together will be on Friday 25th October 2019. We will be using the Players Lounge which is accessed on the outside of the Madejski Stadium near Gate 1. We will meet at 7pm and if there’s a Friday night game on TV we will finish at Full-Time (9:30pm) but you can leave at any time.

Following our October start we will meet monthly on the first Friday of each month. Our dates for the remainder of the 2019/20 season are: -

Friday 1st November 2019
Friday 6th December 2019
Friday 3rd January 2020
