Girls Football in Schools
There are regular school competitions for girls in the Newbury area both in the Primary and Secondary sectors. In Bracknell and Wokingham FUTSAL has become a popular way to involve girls in football. The Slough Secondary schools run annual girls 5 a-side competitions and are building competitions for the primary sector.
Bucks Schools take part in 3 regular central venue primary school leagues, and hope this year to extend this to central venue small sided secondary school leagues.
Girls Football Clubs
Berkshire has over 40 clubs running girls’ teams, 30 of which have achieved Charter Standard. Within those clubs over 100 girls teams are completing in affiliated competitions ranging from U10-U18.
There are 3 leagues operating in Berkshire who are all keen to support the growth of girl’s football:
South Chiltern Minor Youth Football League (U10-U16 Inclusive)
East Berks Youth League (U11 & U12)
Berkshire Youth Development League (U12 & U13)
In Buckinghamshire has seen the dramatic rise of the Bucks Girls Football league (www.bucksgirlsfootball.co.uk) over the past 5 seasons, which provides football at various age bands for girls age 8 -16 this season 84 teams have registered to play in the Girls League. This season will see the County Cups for girls being run for U16 & U14 Sides.
Women’s Football
Berks & Bucks have 37 competitive women’s teams with 21 of them participating in the local Thames Valley County Women’s League. The league predominantly covers Berks, Bucks and Oxon but also offers opportunities to bordering counties such as Wiltshire and Middlesex. The league is currently spilt into four divisions with a promotion and relegation system in place. The other 16 teams feed the Southern Region, Combination and National Leagues in the pyramid.
Locally both counties provide women’s beginners & Social sessions.
The county FA also run a women’s representative squad for elite senior players within the county,
